VIDEO WORKSHOPS

Workshops Introduction

Introductory Video

Welcome to this set of 3 video workshops, designed to teach you many excellent resources and coping strategies to help you in life. I am very passionate that everyone should have affordable access to good quality support to manage the many challenges and traumas and stressors that life can throw at us.

Please read the description next to each of the workshops to decide which ones would be most suitable for you, or you may decide to purchase all of them for a discounted price (approximately 3 hours of workshop for £90).

Everything that I have brought to you in these workshops are resources that I practice daily and have been exceptionally beneficial to me, and at times have been lifesaving. The concepts and ideas and techniques in the workshops should be suitable for anyone with a cognitive/intellectual age of around 11 to 12 years upwards but please ask guidance and permission from a parent/carer if you are under 18 years old before purchasing.

These workshops are not intended to be a replacement for therapy. For some of you these workshops will be enough to help you manage your challenges, especially if you practice the techniques regularly. For others, depending on the complexity of difficulties you are experiencing, the workshops should teach you valuable ideas and strategies to help you with any therapeutic support you engage with in the future, but you may also benefit from finding a good quality therapist/clinician who can provide more in-depth therapeutic approaches to process and heal underlying traumas and challenges.

I don’t have the resources to answer individual questions so please do access local support groups, therapists, general practitioners etc if you have any concerns about your own psychological difficulties and always seek medical/psychological guidance where appropriate, especially in an emergency or crisis.

Workshop 1

This Psychoeducation Workshop is approximately 50 minutes long and the first part discusses some basic neuroscience about the mechanisms involved when you experience a trauma or stressful situation. I have received fantastic feedback about this workshop because it provides a lot of the science and understanding about how your brain operates during stress and trauma as well as providing brilliant resources to get you started in your healing journey.

It also covers the role of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and Hormonal System when under stress or trauma and the impact this then has on our bodies. I discuss the role of emotions and how different emotions result in different hormones secreted and how we can positively change this by intentionally connecting with different emotions to help the body heal and come in to coherence.

The second part of the workshop looks at the relationship between our thoughts, physical sensations, emotions and behaviour. Under stress or negative experiences, we can get caught up in a vicious negative cycle of thinking and I introduce two methods to break out of this cycle. The first is using distraction techniques and the second is learning to challenge the negative thoughts.  Each of these methods are discussed in some detail. Other significant techniques to break out of the negative thought cycle are covered in a lot more detail in the remaining two workshops (Mindfulness and Heart Led living).

Workshop 2

Endorsed by Emeritus Professor Mark Williams

“In this on-line Mindfulness workshop Alexandra Dent has managed to make complex ideas beautifully accessible, combining clear and helpful psychological explanations with short meditation practices to give you an excellent introduction to mindfulness.A lovely first taste if you are new to mindfulness, and a great reminder if you are more experienced in the art and science of mindful awareness.”

Mark Williams – Co-author, Mindfulness: A Practical Guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World

This comprehensive workshop on Mindfulness is 78 minutes long and teaches you everything you need to know to get you started on a mindful journey. It is full of valuable resources and strategies and is very experiential, with plenty of exercises and techniques throughout the workshop.

Firstly, I introduce the ‘Thought Bubble’ and illustrate how we get caught up in overthinking and overanalyses which keeps us stuck in a negative thought cycle and either living in the past or future.  I then break Mindfulness down in to two areas, Informal Mindfulness (learning to connect in the here and now using your senses) and Formal Mindfulness (embracing what you feel from an emotional and physical perspective within you and this can also involve a meditation practice if that resonates with you).  I teach you 4 key concepts of Mindfulness that have been invaluable to me; Awareness, Acceptance, Compassion and Non-Judgement. I then teach you and exercise on how to Mindfully breathe.

Mindfulness for me has been profound and an essential part of my ability to work through many challenges and traumas in my life and I hope that this will also provide you with the tools to get going on this amazing journey. Learning Mindfulness is also essential if you want to start living a heart led and authentic life (covered in the 3rd workshop).

If you have a history of dissociation then I would strongly recommend you practise the Informal Mindfulness strategies first and get confidence in using these techniques before embarking on the Formal Mindfulness strategies. This will teach you how to safely learn to connect with your surroundings before trying to connect with how you feel emotionally and physically within you.

Workshop 3

Endorsed by Dr Steve Taylor

“Heart-led psychotherapy is an exciting new spiritual approach to psychotherapy that is pervaded with wisdom and insight and has great practical benefits.”
Steve Taylor PhD, author of The Leap and Extraordinary Awakenings

This is a 38-minute workshop teaches you the pathway of how to live a heart-led and authentic life. This is based on Heart Led Psychotherapy (HLP) which I developed in 2019 and have published a book and academic paper introducing these concepts and ideas.

The HLP pathway is based on the premise that everyone is on an individual life journey to understand and experience life lessons (such as assertiveness, joy, forgiveness).  When you experience challenges, trauma or attachment difficulties, these can create blocks and restrictions, resulting in repeated themes and subsequent psychological distress. The ego maintains psychological distress because it makes you feel a victim, powerless and fearful and thus prevents you from breaking out of the repeated patterns.

HLP teaches you to recognise the impact of your ego, encouraging you to metaphorically step outside of your challenges and become an observer so that you can understanding the life lesson each challenge presents.  Learning to recognise and honour what feels right from the ‘heart’ rather than the ego enables you to experience the lesson and make new choices in keeping with your authentic selves. Sometimes this process requires taking ‘leaps of faith’.

This workshop not only teaches you HLP in detail but is also experiential and I teach you exercises on how to connect with your heart and learn how to make heart led choices and move into heart coherence. Mindfulness is an essential part of living a heart led life so it is definitely worth watching the Mindfulness workshop as well to help you with this pathway.
